Since a prior audit in 2005, officials made improvements by implementing corrective actions for eight of the 10 recommendations by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG).

Chapel Hill, NC—A study recently published by researchers at the University of North Carolina has found that children are snacking more frequently between meals. The study, conducted with data from over 31,000 children from two to 18 years old, reports that children in the United States are eating an average of three snacks a day, on top of their three regular meals. 

Cincinnati, OH—Research published in the March issue of British Journal of Nutrition indicates that Concord grape juice may help support healthy brain function in older adults. Data presented in a double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot investigation suggest such findings.

People often have specific health goals in mind when walking into a whole food or supplement store, so it makes sense for storeowners to aid them in their search for products suited to their needs. This usually is accomplished with signage and store sections, pointing the customer in the direction of, say, the whole-grains section, or the aisle containing vitamin D supplements. In addition, we throw away 68 pounds of clothing and textiles annually—together, that’s about 145 billion pounds of fabric sent to landfills each year!

Stratum NutritionStratum Nutrition, a Novus International Business, now offers Artinia for arterial health. Studies indicate this vegetarian ingredient (which combines soluble and insoluble fibers) helps defend against damage caused by free radicals and oxidized low-density lipoprotein, says the company. The ingredient is also said to lower triglyceride levels and decrease lipid deposits in arteries.
