Austin, TX — The 12thannual HerbDay will be celebrated by the nonprofit American Botanical Council (ABC) on Saturday, May 6th. The day will include activities based on herbal education and there will be local and national herbal experts on hand giving presentations. Open from 10 AM until 4 PM, HerbDay will be celebrated at the American Botanical Council headquarters at 6200 Manor Road in East Austin.

“ABC looks forward to reaching out to the local community on HerbDay,” said ABC special projects director Gayle Engels. “In keeping with ABC’s nonprofit educational mission, staff gets to introduce visitors to the beneficial plants we love and to the broad knowledge base of local and global herbalists.”

Free and open to the public, HerbDay will have two herb walks through the over 20 acres at ABC’s culinary- and medicinal-themed gardens. The first walk with Ellen Zimmermann, owner of The Austin School of Herbal Studies and EZ Herbs, will take place from 10:30 – 11:30 AM. The second walk will be at 11:45 AM – 1:15 PM with Nicole Telkes, author and director of the Wildflower School of Botanical Medicine in Austin. The gardens are also open to exploration by participants at their own leisure.

Mark Blumenthal, ABC’s founder and executive director, will present “Humorous Health: Conventional and Alternative Medicine, Pharmaceutical Drugs, Diet, and Lifestyle as Seen through Cartoons” From 2:45 - 3:45 PM.

Live music and special events for children, including a May pole and herbal art activities, are planned throughout the day and refreshments, books, plants and membership information will be on hand, as well as free sample issues of ABC’sHerbalGram, a full-color, quarterly, peer-reviewed scientific journal.
