Washington, D.C.—The Natural Products Association (NPA), the nation’s largest nonprofit trade organization dedicated to the natural products industry, has announced that Corey Hilmas, MD, Ph.D., will serve as its new Senior Vice President of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs.

This follows two other recent major hires for the NPA; Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., as CEO and Devon Powell as Senior Vice President of Member Services and COO.

Hilmas was most recently chief of the Dietary Supplement Regulation Implementation Branch under the Division of Dietary Supplement Programs at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and during his time there, served as an expert witness on label claims and dietary ingredient safety. Hilmas’s new role will involve implementation of the association’s current educational and compliance programs, such as TruLabel. In addition, he will also work on the development of new compliance initiatives, similar to his work at the FDA. His new duties will also include assisting members with health claim reviews and substantiation, as well as New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) notifications.  In a statement, Hilmas remarked that he was “looking forward to the opportunity to translate my experience as a medical professional into tangible programs and guidance for NPA members in the regulatory and scientific arenas.”
