D.D. Williamson of Louisville, KY announced that Jennifer L. Brown joined its Science and Innovation team at the Global Support Center as an application scientist.

Benicia, CA-based InterHealth Nutraceuticals added James Lugo, Ph.D. and Zainulabedin Saiyed, Ph.D. to its team. Lugo is the director of business development and research and Saiyed is the R&D manager.

UAS Labs, headquartered in Eden Prairie, MN, added two scientists to its team: Deepak Jena, who works in probiotic research and probiotic raw materials and Sidhartha Mishra, the plant manager at APN Labs, the probiotic manufacturing operation owned by UAS Labs.

Brian Peotter joined ESM Technologies of Carthage, MO as the Western Region Sales Manager.

Integral Marketing of Boulder, CO added Jean Weiss to its team as PR and Media Strategist.

In May, the second plenary meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 249 on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was held in Switzerland with Michael McGuffin, president of the American Herbal Products Association, present and heading the U.S. delegation. Issues that were discussed included the formation of working groups under this committee, various areas of standardization (such as a coding system for herbal ingredients) and other areas. Stated McGuffin, “From the perspective of the United States, the main focus now will shift to actual work projects, and we will be soliciting ideas for any topic where the creation of an International Standard may serve the herbal industry and herb consumers.”

Cara Welch of the Natural Products Association, based in Washington, D.C., moderated two sessions at the 14th Annual FDA-OCRA Educational Conference. She also spoke on a panel about compliance with good manufacturing practices.

Quality control expert Aaron Secrist joined NOW Foods of Bloomingdale, IL as the company’s quality and regulatory manager. Previously, he was director of quality and R&D for Nature’s Way.
