West Caldwell, NJ-based Novel Ingredient Services hired Wei Tang, Ph.D., to be its director of technical services. In addition, Felice Romano has joined the company as senior analytical service scientist.

Santiago Peralta, founder of Pacari Chocolate of Pichincha, Ecuador is the first Latin American to be named Outstanding Fine Chocolate Maker by the Fine Chocolate Industry Association.

Cees Vermeer, vitamin K2 researcher, ­­­ professor at the University of Maastricht, CEO of VitaK BV and long-time research partner of NattoPharma ASA of Oslo, Norway, was identified as being in the the top 2.5% of all scientists worldwide by Research Gate.

In Memoriam
Herbalist, educator and environmentalist Cascade Anderson Geller passed away at the beginning of May; she was 59. She was a founder of Everett House Healing Center in Portland and taught at the National College of Naturopathic (now Natural) Medicine, Bastyr University, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and the California School of Herbal Studies. Geller was on the United Plant Savers advisory board, founded two food co-ops, an herb store, and four political and social activism groups; she also worked to protect parks and land from toxic herbicides.
