Las Vegas, NV—Three raw materials suppliers were named the winners of the SupplySide West 2011 Scientific Excellence Awards. The tradeshow was held October 10–14, here. The recipients were selected based on their ingredients’ “science/research methods, scientific breakthrough, innovation and appeal for the manufacturing community.”

• Oligonol from Maypro is one winner. The lychee fruit–green tea extract ingredient was found earlier this year to protect again oxidative stress and tissue damage.
• SEPPIC Inc.’s Ceramosides is a new cosmeceutical that is said to give the skin moisture, reduce its roughness and improve its elasticity.
• Wellmune WGP from Biothera is an immune health ingredient backed by 30 peer-reviewed articles, six of which are from 2010–2011. The baker’s yeast beta-glucan “primes innate immune cells,” which benefits overall health.

This year is the tradeshow’s 15th anniversary, and featured topics such as GMPs, warning letters, new food flavors/textures, anti-aging cosmeceuticals and more.

According to organizers, the show saw more than 9,700 dietary supplement, food/beverage and cosmeceutical attendees and exhibitors and 1,340 booths. This marks a 9% increase over 2010’s tradeshow floor.
