EstroG-100 (a branded ingredient menopause support from Helios Corp. and Sunbio Corp.) announced that results of a phase II, human clinical trial, which showed “improvements on all Kupperman Menopause Index scores (11 categories).” In particular, many women reported relief from vaginal dryness.

Enzymotec of Morristown, NJ received a letter of no objection from FDA for the GRAS status of its krill PS ingredient in “breakfast cereals, dairy product analogs, grain products and pastas, milk products, and processed fruits and fruit juices at a use level intended to provide 30 milligrams (mg) of phosphatidylserine per serving; and, as an ingredient in medical foods at levels that would not exceed 300 mg of phosphatidylserine per day.”

Lonza, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, signed a multi-year, supply agreement with Multipower for its Carnipure L-carnitine. “With the signing of this contract, Multipower emphasizes the importance it attaches to sourcing ingredients of highest quality and with excellent safety profiles,” Lonza said.

Nutricap Labs, based in Farmingdale, NY, won the Stevie Award for the 2010 Best Overall Company of the Year (up to 100 employees) by the American Business Awards.

Hayward, CA-based CreAgri, Inc. has patented a manufacturing process for hydroxytyrosol production, isolation and formulation. The two-step technique pits organic olives, extracts polyphenolic-rich water and then “processes the olive juice with citric acid (1%) to obtain the highest concentration of hydroxytyrosol and protect against phenolic oxidation, polymerization and microbial fermentation.”

Pharmachem Laboratories Inc. of Kearny, NJ pledged to give $1 million to Vitamin Angels over the next five years.

East Windsor, NJ Sabinsa Corporation announced that its ForsLean 10% and 20% now have product information numbers (11628 and 107073, respectively) from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). These numbers are assigned as during TGA’s approval process before product are sold in Australia. It also received a patent from the New Zealand Patent Office, “which describes processes to prepare derivatives of forskolin, namely, isoforskolin and 7-deacetylforskolin.”

A researcher from the University of Central Florida gave a presentation about Sustamine at the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) Conference in Clearwater Beach, FL. According to New York- NY-based Kyowa Hakko USA, supplier of this branded ingredient, the presentation showed how Sustamine supports athletes' rehydration, refueling and recovery and is available online at www.sustamine.com/video.php.

SunOpta Inc., headquartered in Toronto, ON, Canada, will market and distribute Garden Green Garbanzo from Clearwater Country Foods of Genesee, ID.

Next Pharmaceuticals of Salinas, CA launched two social media programs to teach consumers about certain health issues. Its Facebook page (The Stress Expert, www.facebook.com/the.stress.expert) is intended to offer tips and information about stress and The Next Word is a blog about a range of health issues (www.nextpharmaceuticals.com/nextword).

Novus Internationa, parent company of Stratum Nutrition (based in St. Charles, MO), acquired the IQF Group. This firm makes nutritional additives and carotenoids for foods, beverages and supplements.

A researcher from UC Davis presented gave a talk about joint-health research at the 2010 Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies that included information about UC-I (from InterHealth Nutraceuticals of Benicia, CA). Specifically, it offered information about the use of this ingredient for those with osteoarthritis.

Martek Biosciences Corporation will restructure its Winchester, KY manufacturing plant before the end of the year “to streamline operations, improve capacity utilization and reduce manufacturing costs and operating expenses.” Many jobs and manufacturing/distribution processes will be transferred to the company’s Kingstree, SC location. 

Ocean Nutrition Canada Limited, headquartered in Dartmouth, NS, Canada, acquired the marketing and distribution rights to GAT Food Essentials’ Omega-3 microencapsulation-emulsion wowCAPS technology.

geniVida from DSM Nutritional Products, Inc. has been self-affirmed GRAS.

Irvine, CA-based Cyvex Nutrition’s BioVin Full Spectrum Grape Extract and BioVin 20 Grape Skin Extract were self-determined GRAS.
