Austin, TX—The American Botanical Council’s (ABC) 2013 Varro E. Tyler Commercial Investment in Phytomedicinal Research Award has been presented to Wakunaga Pharmaceutical Company, LLC (Osaka, Japan). Wakunaga is the maker of Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract.

ABC Founder and Executive Director Mark Blumenthal said the firm earned the award due to its strong record of funding research, including clinical, pharmacological and chemical studies on its garlic preparation.

Director of sales for Wakunaga of America, Jay Levy, says his company is proud to have over 700 peer-reviewed papers on the efficacy of Aged Garlic Extract. “Our future plans are to continue to invest in the research of herbal products,” says Levy.

ABC also gave awards to herbalist and educator Sara Katz (Mark Blumenthal Herbal Community Builder Award), authors and researchers Kerry Bone and Simon Mills (James A. Duke Excellence in Botanical Literature Award) and Gordon M. Cragg, Ph.D. (Norman R. Farnsworth Excellence in Botanical Research Award).
