Bethesda, MD—The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Dietary Supplements and the National Library of Medicine have put together a free online database intended to give shoppers and health care providers more information about dietary supplements.

Called the Dietary Supplement Label Database (www.dsld.nlm.nih.gov), the tool contains the supplement facts panels found on 17,000 dietary supplements currently on and also off the U.S. market. Users can search listings by dietary ingredient, product name or company name.

According to NIH, the database will be updated regularly to incorporate labeling changes and eventually add information about the more than 55,000 supplements currently in the U.S. marketplace.
