Sabinsa Corporation wrapped up its 2013 Sabinsa on Wheels series at the beginning of October, with a Weehawken, NJ event. This day-long educational event for its East Coast customers featured several speakers from the Sabinsa team, who spoke about the company and the science behind its proprietary dietary supplement ingredients.

Shaheen Majeed, marketing director, kicked off the morning by offering some background information about Sabinsa, noting the company is a “cultivator, manufacturer and innovator” with 8,000-10,000 farmers and 40,000 acres. Some of its future ventures may bring the firm to Africa. With a bent toward research, Majeed stated, “Sabinsa invests about $6 million every year for existing and upcoming ingredients.”

Reinforcing this sentiment, Sarang Bani, Ph.D., vice president (R&D) and head of biological sciences, SAMI LABS, Ltd., spoke about Sabinsa’s R&D capabilities, saying, “Innovation is the key, so we keep on innovating...Science does not stop. It keeps progressing...That is how we move ahead.”

From there, Sabinsa’s scientific team gave presentations about specific topics and ingredients, such as Forslean, Leangard, Curcumin C3 Complex, Lactospore and more, with lively questions and answers periods throughout the day.

The event also featured two guest speakers: Douglas Kalman, Ph.D., R.D., FACN, an industry science consultant, who talked about clinical trial design in the joint health category, and attorney Marc Ullman of Ullman Shapiro and Ullman, who covered the issue of product/ingredient quality throughout the supply chain.
