Blue California of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA announced that its L-TeaActive L-theanine ingredient has achieved GRAS status.

A new published study indicates that a lower dose of Superba krill oil from Aker BioMarine than fish oil is needed to boost individuals’ blood serum levels of EPA/DHA. It also helped improve their HDL-cholesterol/triglyceride ratio. The DHA/EPA dose from krill was 63% of that provided in the fish oil.

Short Hills, NK-based OmniActive Health Technologies announced that its Lutemax 2020 ingredient was self-affirmed GRAS for use in a range of food and beverage applications.

Danisco has new toxicity data indicating its Nisaplin natural antimicrobial agent has “acceptable daily intake (ADI) many times higher than current recommendations.” Thus, the company, which is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, states it is an effective and safe alternative to chemicals in food products.

Embria of Ankeny, IA recently released the results of a 12-person study on its EpiCor immune-support ingredient. The branded ingredient was applied topically to one arm to gauge its anti-histamine effects; a placebo solution was applied to the other arm. After a histamine scratch test, the EpiCor resulted in less skin irritation and inflammation than the placebo (measured by blood perfusion using a noninvasive laser Doppler). Irritation also returned to normal more quickly than with the placebo.
