Growing up in the New York /New Jersey area, as well as the natural products industry, has taught me many things. First, we are tough survivors and will do what it takes to overcome. With that in mind, we were tested again with perhaps one of our biggest challenges last month when Super Storm Sandy hit our area.  Many people lost their homes, cars and items of sentimental value. Relief workers are helping them, but it is not enough.

It has been one week since Hurricane Sandy (one of the worst storms to ever hit the United States), and many parts of the East Coast are still feeling the effects. While some areas remain without heat and power, and others are try to rebuild from wind and water damage, many natural and organic food distributors have stepped up to help the victims of Sandy by providing food and supplies in many devastated locations.

The state of the environment concerns many people for selfish reasons. It’s not just the environment's health that warrants attention, but also the way an unhealthy environment can affect our wellbeing. A new United Nations (UN) educational tool helps map out how climate change can and will impact human health. From flooding to malaria to scorching hot days, the effects are varied and dramatic.
