James Johnson is a 4th generation farmer and partner in W.R. Johnson
and Sons LLC in Columbus, NM. W.R. Johnson and Sons is a diverse operation growing Upland and Pima cotton, paprika type chile peppers, onions, durum wheat, grain sorghum, pecans, and pistachio.
James attended Texas Tech University where he studied ag economics and horticulture before returning to the farm in 1995. In 1999 James took on the task of implementing subsurface drip irrigation on the farm to protect the desert's most precious resource of water.
The farm now has moved into a regenerative agriculture approach, focusing on improved soil health, balanced fertility, and improved quality and yield of all products produced.
