PepsiCo continues its push into more nutritious foods with the acquisition of plant-based snack food brand Health Warrior. The deal is the first investment by “the Hive, a PepsiCo entity focused on emerging trends and designed to grow smaller brands.

Health Warrior, which launched in 2011, will continue to operate from its headquarters in Richmond, VA. Terms were not disclosed.

Health Warrior products are made of chia, pumpkin seeds and other so-called superfoods.

These ingredients are “critical as consumers get much more discerning about what they’re putting in their bodies,” said PepsiCo North American Nutrition president Seth Kaufman, in a statement.
