7-Eleven and Whole Foods Market as Competitors?

Dallas, TX—7-Eleven is adding health-friendly and organic options to a lab store in Dallas to test out new products and platform ideas, according to Retail Dive. While 7-Eleven is attempting to change their product approach, Whole Foods Market is testing out a convenience store location, similar to a 7-Eleven, in New York City, according to the New York Eater.

The Dive states that 7-Eleven is making the Slurpee machine organic, with non-GMO and all natural flavors—ingredients include turmeric and celery.

They will also be testing out other organic grocery products such as Justin’s nut butter, trail mix, and vegan, keto, paleo, and gluten-free options, according to Retail Dive.

This new addition to 7-Eleven is due to consumer interest in fresh and health focused food options, and the pressure for convenience stores to offer new ideas, according to the Dallas News. Being a convenience store, they want to create a market for those who are looking for healthy, quick, options.

At the same time, according to the Eater, Whole Foods is creating a quicker alternative for on-the-go shoppers to be able to buy local health conscious products. The Whole Foods Market Daily Shop, as the new location been dubbed, will sell grab-and-go foods. It will contain a bar run by Allegro Coffee Co., where customers can get coffee, fresh juice, and kombucha, and an açaí station where shoppers can build their own bowls. And—moving further into convenience store territory—the store will have items like toothbrushes, shampoos, and other travel-sized products.
