A Win for CBD: S.D. Senate Bill that Classified CBD Oil as Illegal Drug Amended

Pierre, SD–As WholeFoods previously reported, South Dakota’s Senate Health and Human Services Committee was considering Senate Bill 22, which would have classified most CBD oil as a Schedule IV controlled substance.

Following push back from the public and hemp activists about the generalized classification, the Committee amended the bill. According to a report in Rapid City Journal, the updated wording specifically schedules Epidiolex–the FDA-approved CBD oil prescription drug used to prevent seizures–as a controlled substance, rather than scheduling cannabidiol in general.

The Committee then unanimously passed the amended bill. Next up: The bill moves to the State Senate, then the House before being considered by South Dakota’s Governor.
