White Plains, NY—Danone Institute North America, a non-profit organization created by Danone North America, launched its new One Planet. One Health Initiative, a transdisciplinary grant program, according to a press release. The grant program involves four teams that will design, implement and evaluate community-based projects for sustainable food systems.
The goal, according to the release, is to bring health through food to as many people as possible and create a new global vision. The four selected teams will be awarded $90,000 to implement their projects and spread their message to a broad audience. The grant will provide the start-up funding for things such as feasibility testing, pilot studies, planning grants, and needs assessments.
According to the release, the four selected teams will also attend a four-day program in Boulder, Colorado that includes training on sustainable food systems from experts in the fields of implementation science, communication, sustainability, economics, and nutrition. There will also be presentation and panels with community leaders such as retailers, corner storeowners, farmers, WIC leaders and more.
“A transdisciplinary approach is critical to building sustainable foods systems, and that’s why the One Planet. One Health Initiative was designed to forge relationships between diverse practices and fields of study,” Leslie Lytle, president of Danone Institute North America and professor at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, stated in the press release. “The program will bring together seasoned experts and budding innovators to uncover new solutions through an immersive experience that starts with the proposal development. We encourage all scholars and practitioners who share in our vision to create a healthier world through food to join us by submitting a project idea that helps bring this vision to life.”
