Tyson Foods to Launch Meat Substitute

New York City, NY—Tyson Foods plans to launch a meat substitute this summer, according to CNN.

The product will have a limited launch, CEO and president Noel White said during an analyst call, according to CNN, but Tyson has been considering alternatives to animal protein for a while.

Earlier this year Tyson announced that it had sold its 6.5% stake in vegan burger maker Beyond Meat, according to a Reuters report.

The animal meat market is volatile at the moment, CNN notes: China’s pork industry has been dragged down due to African swine fever, which could push Tyson’s chicken and beef business–but, as CNN points out, the uncertainty regarding tariffs sent chicken prices lower anyway.
