Johnston, IA--Hydrolyzed water‐soluble eggshell membranehas positive effects for skin and hair, according to a randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. The study tested the effects of BiovaBIO, a 100% eggshell membrane ingredient available for use in supplements, on healthy adults between 35 and 65 years of age.

The results: Ingestion of BiovaBIO is associated with significant improvement in the appearance of crow’s feet after 4 weeks and skin tone after 8 weeks, according to a press release from Biova, LLC. The 12-week study also showed a significant impact in hair thickness, hair growth and a reduction in hair breakage at 4, 8 and 12 weeks. The researchers concluded: Oral supplementation of 450 mg/d hydrolyzed eggshell membrane for 12 weeks is associated with improvement in the appearance of facial skin and hair.

“We are very excited about the results of this study and feel that the significant anti-aging benefits demonstrated by BiovaBIO make it a superb competitor in the Hair, Skin and Nails supplement category," Biova CEO Pat Schneider said in the release. "Additionally, BiovaBIO will be an excellent complement to our existing topical cosmetic beauty ingredient, BiovaDerm. Together, our two ingredients offer a total system of both inner and outer beauty results."
