Functional ingredients manufacturer BENEO held an open house recently for its North American Application Center in Parsippany, NJ. The 3,000 square foot facility is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to test formulation aspects of its functional ingredients, including fiber enrichment, sugar or fat replacement, as well as taste and texture improvements.

HB Natural Ingredients, Irvine, CA, a new spinoff company from the BGG Group has launched with a technology-driven specialty plant-based ingredient portfolio including a comprehensive range of stevia extracts, such as Rebaudioside D, and licorice root extracts, such as MAG (Mono Ammonium Glycyrrhizinate). The company has near-term launch plans for next-generation modified stevia extracts.

The Sami-Sabinsa Group has acquired exclusive global marketing rights for two patents on Oroxylum indicum from one of India’s longest-established R&D labs, the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR), Hyderabad. The specific patents are European EP1986670 and USA US7855200.

Welch’s Global Ingredients Group, Concord, MA, reports its evaluation of superfruit juices ranks Concord grape juice as delivering the best combination of affordability and high polyphenol content compared to açai juice, blueberry juice, pomegranate juice, dark sweet cherry juice and cranberry juice. Citing a 2008 study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Concord grape juice has a polyphenolic concentration of 2.6mg GAE/mL.at just $2.20 per gallon.
