Study: LJ100 Supports Reproductive Hormones in Young Males

Bradenton, FL—New research validates that supplementation with LJ100 Eurycoma longifolia (“Tongkat Ali”) preserves normal reproductive hormonal production and interaction, according to a press release from HP Ingredients (HPI).

Earlier research found that supplementation with E. longifolia supports de novo synthesis of testosterone in humans (mainly older adults) through activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal axis, HPI reported. The new  placebo-controlled, double-blind study, published in Andrologia, looked at whether LJ100 exerted similar effects in young males, typically at their peak of testosterone production. 32 healthy young men (average age 24.4 years) consumed either 600 mg LJ100 or placebo daily for two weeks.

The findings: LJ100 was able to increase testosterone in healthy young men, when consumed in high doses. Significant increases in testosterone (14%) and free testosterone (34%) were recorded after two weeks.

“The lack of changes in luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone levels suggests that a lesser role played by Eurycoma longifolia in activating the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in the young adults,” the study authors report. “The raised testosterone level may be due to a greater rate of hormone production via the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. The supplementation of Eurycoma longifolia for two weeks demonstrates steroidogenic effects on young men were dose-related. Consequently, the raised testosterone following Eurycoma longifolia supplementations could benefit muscle and strength gain in young adults.”

Annie Eng, CEO of HP Ingredients, commented in a press release, “This study is significant in that it is the first to measure hormonal effects in healthy young men. This study may certainly be used as a strong platform for formulating sports supplements for competitive athletes and trainers.”
