Hadley, MA—A small-animal study has found that stress-induced damage to the gastrointestinal tract may be helped with a vitamin E tocotrienols.

Fourteen rats were given a normal diet, but seven rats out of the group also received 90% delta- and 10% gamma tocotrienol (at 60 mg/kg body weight, as DeltaGold 70 annatto ingredient from American River Nutrition, based here) for 28 days. All were then subjected to a stressful environment, and then assessed for gastric lesions. The presence of pro-inflammatory prostaglandin E2 was noted, too. In the end, gastric lesions were much lower in the tocotrienol-treated group; annatto tocotrienol reduced the number of lesions by 2.2-fold.

The study is published in the Polish Journal of Pathology.
