Port-au-Prince, Haiti—Last month, WholeFoods covered efforts by industry companies to help those affected by the earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti in January. Since the time of that publication, several other companies have offered their support:
• The Planet Dog Foundation, based in Portland, ME, raised $16,000 for the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, which includes an $8,000-matching gift by the Joanne Woodward Newman and the Newman’s Own Foundations. This money will be used to support Canine Disaster Search Teams in Haiti.
• Jarrow Formulas, Inc. of Los Angeles, CA joined forces with www.iHerb.com to give than $3,000 to the Haiti Earthquake relief effort. Some 2.5% of the January 18–31 sales of Jarrow Formulas’ products were donated to Doctors Without Borders, The American Red Cross and CARE.
• Homeopaths Without Borders-NA, based in Berkeley Springs, WV, is creating a plan to help treat children in affected orphanages and to educate on-site caregivers about homeopathic remedies. “Our goal is to establish ongoing relationships with these orphanages; we believe intervention will be necessary for an indeterminate period,” the group said, which is accepting donations at www.homeopathswithoutborders-na.org.
