Held by the Congressional Dietary Supplement Caucus, speaker Victor Fulgoni, Ph.D., senior vice president of Nutrition Impact, LLC, discussed nutrient shortfalls among the U.S. population and how such gaps could be filled. The American Herbal Products Association, Consumer Healthcare Products Association, Council for Responsible Nutrition, Natural Products Association and United Natural Products Alliance all represented the natural products industry.
Several companies have joined the Council for Responsible Nutrition of Washington, D.C., as voting members: Arbonne International, LLC, Bergstrom Nutrition, HORN Nutraceuticals and SmartyPants. New associate members are Jones Day and MCS Associates Inc., and The Boots Company PLC joined as an international member.

The Natural Products Association Southwest Healthfest 2014 held in Irving, TX, experienced increased attendance with double the retailer attendees over last year and 25 extra vendor spots. “What this tells us is that regional shows such as this are needed and appreciated,” stated Angie O’Pry Blades, NPA-SW president.

Women’s Voices for the Earth launched a new campaign, entitled “No Secrets.” The nine founding companies (which includes Natracare, Seventh Generation and others) believe in full disclosure of ingredients in their products and eliminating harmful ones. The “No Secrets” campaign will pressure makers of women’s products to improve standards for transparency and safety.
