Newport Beach, CA—Research published in the Journal of Clinical Interventions in Aging indicates that an oral collagen combination ingredient may reduce signs of aging.

Researchers gave 26 healthy women (ages 35–59) with some visible photoaging issues (like wrinkles and dryness) a supplement with a combination of low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate and hydrolyzed collagen type II (1 gram, BioCell Collagen). Daily supplementation made skin less dry (76% reduction) and have fewer wrinkles (13% reduction) after three months. Within six weeks, there was more collagen content and hemoglobin (which affects oxygen circulation).

The researchers suggest that a controlled study would be the next step to verify these results, but note that the present study is the first to show that the branded collagen matrix causes physiological effects that “can be harnessed to counteract natural photoaging processes to reduce visible aging signs in the human face.”
