We must consciously guard against depleting the world of its natural resources. Include policies on sustainability, and regenerating and repairing the environment, for the sake of future generations, in every decision.
—Ms. Asha Ramesh
From company founder Dr. Muhammed Majeed, I have learned to stay focused, to pay attention to details, to encourage teamwork and nourish Sabinsa culture among all, to never stop learning, and to work with the highest integrity. Effective communication and help from the collective wisdom of experts on our team have helped me in major business decisions.
I realize everything I do in the workplace will directly affect our group, and keeping this in mind, I aim to make responsible, conscious decisions that will work best for the organization. I also try to provide direct and honest feedback to my team, in an empathetic way. This way, they will be encouraged and empowered in personal and professional development.
Emphasis on developing and bringing to market products with scientific and clinical substantiation is Sabinsa’s core business philosophy, and responsible for fueling the company’s ongoing commercial success. Sabinsa has obtained several IND approved clinical protocols for its products from the FDA, and offers several with GRAS status. With more than 120 scientists working full time conducting ongoing research both in India and the United States, Sabinsa continues to develop and patent beneficial nutrients for the world market.
Making an Impact
Our fair-trade contract manufacturing program, which includes training small farmers in good agricultural practices, goes back decades. In addition to guaranteed income for the farmers even when weather events undermine harvests, Sabinsa has supported rural community schools and improved infrastructure.
Sabinsa has been at the forefront of sustainability initiatives for many years, from an award-winning reforesting program, to careful management of water and manufacturing impact. Recently, the company built Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) capability into a new manufacturing facility, which minimizes the production-associated ecological footprint. In the spring of 2023, Sabinsa signed a Long-Term Mutual Agreement with O2 Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of the renowned Singapore-based renewable energy developer O2 Energy SG PTE Limited, for the purchase of 150 MU of renewable power over a 25-year period. This investment in clean energy by Sami-Sabinsa Group will make a significant contribution to India’s transition towards more sustainable energy and combating climate change.
Supporting Gender Equity
Sabinsa is proud to be a sponsor of Women In Nutraceuticals (WIN), a non-profit organization founded in 2022 to further leadership opportunities for women and promote inclusive research into women’s health. The organization is igniting a movement to build support for women across the nutraceutical supply chain to help increase the percentage of women holding leadership roles, funding for female-led businesses, and women’s participation in research. There are multiple women in top leadership positions with the Sami-Sabinsa Group, so sponsoring WIN’s gender parity mission was an easy decision.
Milestones
There have been many significant moments in the many years I have put in at Sabinsa. A noteworthy one was in December 2019, when I was fortunate to attend the 30th anniversary Annual Day celebrations of Sami Labs, the Sami-Sabinsa Group manufacturing arm. It was mind blowing to see the entire gamut of our Group—so many manufacturing facilities, marketing and distribution offices across the world, and the number of people from our manufacturing facilities who came along with their family members in many bus loads to witness and participate in a spectacular all-day celebration. We have grown on a truly massive scale. I realized the immenseness of our Group that day and felt fortunate to be part of the success of our organization under the leadership of Dr. Majeed, a remarkable visionary. I could clearly discern the importance of doing our best in Sabinsa USA year after year, as a major marketing arm of our group, as it will deeply impact so many lives across our manufacturing arm SAMI and our extended farming community family.
Operate with Integrity
Please don’t cut corners and use potentially unsafe or ineffective material in bringing out products for the dietary supplement industry. Long-term consumer confidence can be secured only if the natural products industry can bring out safe, efficacious, high-quality ingredients. We must consciously guard against depleting the world of its natural resources. Include policies on sustainability, and regenerating and repairing the environment, for the sake of future generations, in every decision.
