Stefan M. Pasiakos, Ph.D., FACSM is the new director of NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS). Dr. Pasiakos is currently a Research Physiologist and Chief of the Military Performance Division at the United States Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, where he leads a diverse research program and scientific team to develop evidence-based solutions to limit musculoskeletal injuries, accelerate return to duty, and optimize physical and behavioral performance in military training and operational environments. Pasiakos will help lead NIH efforts in expanding the scientific knowledge base on dietary supplements, enhancing the dietary supplement research workforce, fostering the development and dissemination of research resources and tools, and translating dietary supplement research findings into useful information for consumers, health professionals, researchers, and policymakers. Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) CEO Scott Melville welcomed the appointment. “CHPA welcomes Dr. Pasiakos to this new role, where he will be instrumental in helping advance ODS’s mission as its permanent director. His previous nutraceuticals industry experience includes over a decade with various divisions at Abbott Labs in the U.S., Thailand, and Mexico, as well as with Metagenics as Senior Vice President, General Manager – Americas.
Nobell Foods has hired Justin Ferber as Chief Legal Officer. Ferber will lead Nobell's legal function, spanning corporate, compliance and intellectual property. Ferber joins Nobell after serving as General Counsel for Inscripta and General Counsel for Omada Health.
Sempera Organics Chief Mycologist, Dennis Desjardin, Ph.D., is being awarded the Distinguished Mycologist Award by the Mycological Society of America. The recognition honors Dr. Desjardin's long career of research, teaching, and professional and public service in the field of mycology. Dr. Desjardin served for 31 years as Professor in the Department of Biology, and Director and Curator of the H.D. Thiers Herbarium at San Francisco State University.
The Organic Trade Association (OTA) welcomed two veteran organic experts to form a new technical and regulatory team. Joelle Mosso is joining OTA as Senior Director of Technical and Regulatory Affairs, and Scott Rice is now Director of Regulatory Affairs. Mosso brings experience in the organic produce industry, along with a technical microbiology and testing background. Rice has more than 20 years of experience in organic, most recently at the Washington State Department of Agriculture Organic Program. Gwendolyn Wyard, currently Vice President of Regulatory and Technical Affairs for OTA, is departing in June to form a new business, called Strengthening Organic Systems (SOS). SOS was founded to improve the resilience and overall integrity of global organic supply chains.
Good Foods has hired six CPG industry veterans. New customer development team leaders include Peter Flesvig, Vice President of Retail Sales, and Renee Boardway, Global Procurement Manager. Flesvig spearheads Good Foods’ continued expansion across North America. Good Foods also hired four additional roles under Good Foods Senior Vice President of Customer Development Sales Matthew Newman: Jen Scheele, Regional Sales Manager; Melissa Dabrowski, Consumer Insights and Strategy Manager, Neala Aaron, Foodservice National Account Manager; and Kalen Statz, National Account Manager for Club Sales.
