Ludwigshafen, Germany—On July 29th an emergency fire occurred at the BASF plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany and caused a halt in the production of vitamin A, vitamin E, carotenoid products, and select aroma ingredients. The incident, which occurred in a plant that manufactures aroma ingredients and precursors, lead to a shut-down of the facility and a disruption to the vitamin A, vitamin E, and carotenoid production causing BASF SE and its affected affiliates to declare Force Majeure on delivery of some of its products including Ionones, Pyranol, DL-Menthol, Rose Oxides, Ethyllinalool, Nerolidol, and Isophytol.
While the plant did suffer damages, the company reported there was no contamination of air, water, or soil, and that any employees who had suffered minor injuries were dismissed from the local Medical Center that same evening. Cleaning, inspection, and repair work has already begun at the location.
BASF will be providing updates on the incident, here.
