Washington, DC—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) shared news of the passing of Annette Dickinson, Ph.D., CRN’s former President and longest-serving staff member. She passed on January 15, 2025.
Dr. Dickinson is remembered for the pivotal role she played in the growth both CRN and the dietary supplement industry.
Dr. Dickinson had a Doctorate in Food Science and Nutrition, and joined CRN as its original staff member in 1973. Over the years, she held several positions leading up to her role as CRN President from 2002 to 2005. After her retirement, CRN shared, Dr. Dickinson remained an active advocate and consultant on nutrition policy.
Dr. Dickinson was known for her commitment to science, her principled approach, and her dedication to promoting better nutrition, CRN said. Among her many contributions to the industry:
- Authored numerous editions of CRN's The Benefits of Nutritional Supplements
- Testified before Congress
- Served on esteemed advisory panels, including the FDA’s Food Advisory Committee and the Commission on Dietary Supplement Labels.
“Her steady hand and insistence on science-backed policy led the organization through many tough decisions and proved to define CRN's course as ‘the science behind the supplements,’” said Steve Mister, CRN’s President and CEO.
Dr. Dickinson also will be remembered for her warmth, wit, and generosity, the CRN team shared, adding. "She leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire CRN and the broader nutrition community."
A memoriam from her family, which contains visitation details, says she will be remembered for her intelligence, her zest for life, her thoughtfulness and generosity, her compassion for those less fortunate than her, and especially her love and devotion to family.
