On Friday, April 4, 2025, the natural products industry lost a long-time member with the passing of John R. Heck Jr. Passing away at the age of 82 in Hummelstown, PA, Heck began his career in the industry during the 90s with Strength Systems, Twin Lab, and Weider.

Family, friends, and colleagues will remember Heck for his contagious personality and willingness to help and foster growth both personally and professionally. "John Heck was one of those individuals who made a positive impact on everyone who knew him. John was so well known and respected in the industry that walking through a trade show with him was nearly impossible as he was greeted by just about every vendor on the show floor. Working for John was an experience that has never been duplicated. He took a bunch of young neophytes in the sports nutrition world and shaped us into who we are today. Leaders in every category of the natural products industry," shared Jeri Trachtman, US Sales, Pro-Ven Probiotics.

Richard White, CEO Sportika Export Inc., remembers Heck for his emphasis on people over business: "John epitomized the saying, 'Make a sale, make a dollar, make a friend, make a fortune.'  He taught people how to treat others and to work with the person, not just the brand or company. A truly wonderful man."

WholeFoods Magazine Chief Business Officer, Heather Wainer, remembers Heck as a true mentor, "I met John when I first started working in the industry. He always had a smile on his face and was so kind. He was someone I thought would live forever. I know he mentored so many friends who are forever in his debt."
