Washington, D.C.—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) has revealed findings from their annual Consumer Survey on Dietary Supplements that the supplement market will be happy to see.
Conducted online by Ipsos Public Affairs and funded by CRN, this survey used a national sample of 2,010 adults aged 18 and older, with weighting being used to ensure the sample reflects the composition of the U.S. population.
The study results showed both heavy interest and confidence in supplements from the consumer base, with 68% of the group reporting using dietary supplements and over 50% reporting being regular users. Perhaps the most interesting statistic is that 83% of the group reported an overall confidence in the safety, quality and effectiveness of dietary supplements, substantially more than those who actually use them. The survey also revealed the “Vitamins and Minerals” category to be most popular across all generations of supplement users.
Judy Blatman, senior vice president of communications at CRN, said that these results are indicative of the important role supplements play for consumers in all demographics looking to achieve a healthy lifestyle. She also noted that even though the industry had suffered some bad publicity over the course of this year, the high levels of confidence in the survey show that “people realize there is a legitimate and responsible majority of companies in our industry whose top priority is to ensure product quality so that consumers can not only maintain good health, but also maintain brand loyalty.”
