Washington, D.C.—The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) applauded Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) for the introduction oflegislationthat will increase consumer safety and enforcement efforts in the battle against illegal products being mismarketed as dietary supplements, according to a press release. The bill, S.2895 Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator Control Act of 2019, enhances the Drug Enforcement Agency’s authority to remove illegal Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) from the market.

Steve Mister, President and CEO of CRN, said in the release: “CRN has immense appreciation for the bipartisan efforts of Senators Grassley and Whitehouse that led to the introduction of the SARMs Control Act of 2019. This dangerous class of ingredients poses a serious threat to consumer safety, as well as the integrity of the legitimate dietary supplement marketplace, and so we call on the entire Congress to take immediate action to get this legislation enacted into law.”

As part of its advocacy efforts, CRN has launched a consumer education initiative ot raise awareness among consumers, specifically those in the body building and fitness communities, about the dangers of SARMs. CRN features on its website a#SARMSCanHarm toolkitof downloadable and shareable content on SARMs, and provides tips on how athletes can protect themselves from products containing these ingredients.
