The Organic Trade Association launched a new consumer Web site, “Organic. It’s Worth It,” located at www.organicitsworthit.org. The site offers basic facts about organic, tips on using organic around the house, organic recipe ideas, the latest in organic news and trends, and a “Featured Expert” section. There is also a poll that allows consumers to voice their opinions on a variety of issues related to organic agriculture and products.

Simply Organic and Frontier Natural Products Co-op of Norway, IA announced the establishment of a scholarship award in perpetuity for the Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). A combined contribution of $130,000 was given to the UCSC Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems.

Richvale, CA-based Lundberg Family Farms announced that 66 of its products have been verified as meeting the standard for avoiding genetically modified organisms (GMO) by the Non-GMO Project.

The 35th Winter Fancy Food Show presented by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade held in San Francisco, CA (January 17–19) had the highest attendance of any Winter Show in the past five years. The three-day event at Moscone Center, which ended Jan. 19, drew 16,780 buyers of specialty food from across the U.S. and around the world.
