The Bulk is Green Council (BIG), Portland, OR, is recruiting retailers for its fourth annual National Bulk Foods Week, set for October 12–18, 2014. Last year, more than 1,200 grocery stores and co-ops around the country offered special discounts on bulk bin foods, and participating retailers also received promotional materials and signage from BIG.

2,760 acres of land in northern Montana have been purchased by Nature’s Path, Richmond, BC, Canada. The organic cereal maker increases its organic farmland with this purchase, and hopes to attract new farmers and meet growing demand for organic grains and legumes.

In other non-GMO news, Frontier Natural Products Co-op, Norway, IA, announced that its vanilla flavorings and extracts are now Non-GMO Project Verified, and Big Time Tea announced that its organic Little Me Tea line has achieved the same status.

Bakery on Main, East Hartford, CT, recently broke ground on a new 111,000 ft2 commercial baking facility at 127 Park Avenue in East Hartford.
