The Spices Board of India named Benny Antony its 2012 Innovator of the Year for his work developing high-absorption BCM-95 Curcumin. This ingredient is marketed by Dolcas Biotech of Chester, NJ.

Fruit d’Or of Quebec, Canada, is in discussions with Rutgers University of New Brunswick, NJ to explore a cranberry-proanthocyanidin standardization program. The cranberry quality assurance program will create a higher standard of quality and science for cranberry ingredients. Fruit d’Or says that since no standardized protocol for measuring the PAC content of cranberry ingredients exists, consumers can’t know which products contain active PACs, which don’t, and if those levels are viable as shown by science. The proposed quality assurance program would ensure each lot is tested annually for PAC levels; the firm believes all cranberry health supplements should deliver at least 36 mg of bioactive PACs per day.

West Windsor, NJ-based Sabinsa Corp.’s SabiLize received a U.S. patent for its application as an antioxidant/antimicrobial preservative in cosmetic formulations.
