Maypro Industries, based in Purchase, NY, has completed a structured financing of Good Superfoods, LLC, a functional chocolate maker. It will operate as NutriWelle, and will have a division dedicated to private label manufacturing and one devoted to finished products. The finished products will offer branded product lines including Good Superfoods, Agami and Good Cacao.

New data released by Nu Science Trading of Phoenix, AZ, suggest that its MyoMax ingredient increases cardiac output in active adults. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 25 patients either took a placebo or MyoMax for eight weeks. At baseline, both groups’ maximum cardiac output (L/min) was fairly close. After eight weeks, the MyoMax group exhibited a 20% increase in maximal cardiac output, with a steady increase at all exercise stages. This increase is equivalent to the typical benefits seen after 16 weeks of working out. The placebo group did not show any cardiac output increase during the study. MyoMax is also said to increase ATP production at the cellular level, decrease muscle cramping and improve muscle contraction.

Aker BioMarine, based in Oslo, Norway, received an “A” rating in the 2015 Reduction Fisheries Sustainability Overview from the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership. “This ‘A’ rating helps validate the effort that Aker BioMarine puts behind sustainability and enables the company to be seen as role model for other fisheries,” said Marte Haabeth Grindaker, sustainability director at Aker BioMarine.

Cypress Systems donated $5 toward the Men’s Health Movember Campaign for each picture taken with a mustache prop at its SupplySide West booth. Movember photo booth participants accounted for $1,500 in donations, and Cypress matched the funds with a donation from its non-profit, JPW3.

With transparency a key concern for many consumers, PLT Health Solutions launched the PLT360 program at SupplySide West. Devin Stagg, vice president of strategy and business development at PLT Health Solutions, explained, “Trust builds brands.” The PLT360 program is a promise to customers to deliver four fundamental components with all its branded ingredients: integrity, quality, sustainability and efficacy. Stagg called it “premium customer care for product ingredients.”

Fruit d’Or Nutraceuticals of Quebec, Canada, released a scientific dossier devoted to cranberry at SupplySide West. Stephen Lukawski, the firm’s director of global sales and development, believes the dossier will “help debunk the junk in the cranberry industry and set higher quality standards for both cranberry ingredients and cranberry products.” The history of cranberry, research about whole cranberry and information about new cranberries studies are all covered in the document as well as new health applications such as oral care, gut health, cardio health, prostate and skin care. Key parts of the piece are new test methods(like Butonal, DNA barcoding and sequential testing), new testing  equipment (like MALTI –TOF) and reference standards such as C-PAC for measuring the potency of proanthocyanidin (PAC) content. Insoluble PAC, says Lukawski, is only found in the press cake of cranberry and not in juice. He believes it is the key to cranberry’s health benefits.  Lukawski hopes the standards for C-PAC will soon be officially recognized by USP and AHP.
