Kuriyama, Japan—Drinking unsalted tomato juice improved cardiovascular risk markers in Japanese adults at risk of cardiovascular disease, according to a study published in Food Science & Nutrition.
The study was performed on 481 participants: 184 male, 297 female. 260 subjects also participated in a detailed study of their lifestyle factors. All were provided with as much unsalted tomato juice as they wanted.
Participants saw a significant decrease in blood pressure and LDL cholesterol, effects which did not differ between sexes or age groups. The study noted that no significant difference in lifestyle was found at the end of the study.
