Quebec, CN – Fruit d’Or Nutraceuticals has entered into the personal care and cosmetic industry.
The leading supplier and processor of premium-quality organic cranberry ingredients has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hydromer, Inc. to create patented antimicrobial/antioxidant personal care and cosmetic products using Fruit d’Or’s next-generation five-star organic cranberry seed oil.
Hydromer is well-known in the global medical, animal health and cosmetic industries for inventing, patenting, licensing, manufacturing, contract R&D and selling sophisticated anti-microbial medical coatings, among other essential products. This MOU capitalizes on newly discovered synergies between organic Cran Naturelle Oil and Hydromer’s patented botanical carvacrol technology.
Stephen Lukawski, partner of Fruit d’Or and CEO of RSSI, states this exclusive relationship with Hydromer’s patented carvacrol technology, a blend of natural ingredients derived from oregano, lecithin and xanthan gum, will allow Fruit d’Or to develop cranberry products for the nutraceutical, cosmetic and personal care industry. “Cranberry oil as an antioxidant, combined with the carvacrol technology, will be a game changer for our nutraceutical world as it will be an all-natural barrier to fight against bacteria, viruses and fungi.
“Fruit d’Or was the first to extract the oil from the organic cranberry seed. We knew from previous research that our organic Cran Naturelle Oil is a powerful antimicrobial as well as antioxidant. We were anxious to learn what would happen when it was combined with carvacrol technology, Lukawski adds.”
After reviewing samples of organic Cran Naturelle Oil for testing in combination with carvacrol technology, Hydromer’s Eric Becktel, co-inventor of the carvacrol technology, said “We determined that organic Cran Naturelle Oil significantly increased the microbial kill rate to 100 percent.” Bacteria used in these tests included common pathogens: S. aureus, pathogenic E. coli as well as Pseudomonas, a UTI-causing bacteria that is particularly resistant to other antibacterial products.
Fruit d’Or Nutraceuticals will be the first launch this ingredient technology combination in the cosmetics/personal care side of the natural products industry. “We will demonstrate how pharmaceutical and nutraceutical companies can partner to create natural ingredients and end-products that improve upon anything else currently on the market,” adds Lukawski.
“Hydromer has already created prototypes combining our carvacrol technology with organic Cran Naturelle Oil,” comments Becktel. “Cranberry oil is the big star and will make some beautiful things happen. When we get great ingredients handed to us, we will make great things happen.”
Lukawski confirms that organic Cran Naturelle Oil is one of the most unsaturated oils available, making it an ideal moisturizing ingredient. With a composition of more than 95 percent fatty acids, cranberry seed oil may protect and reestablish the protective lipid barrier of the skin. It has excellent oxidative stability, a pleasant odor and texture, and the ideal 1:1 ratio of omega 3 to omega 6. “Essential fatty acids are nourishing, protective, aid in the formation and maintenance of cellular membranes and are essential to the formation of prostaglandins to reduce inflammation,” confirms Lukawski.
Due to its stability and the protective characteristics of its high vitamin E content, cranberry seed oil is an excellent ingredient for products requiring stabilizing, emulsifying and penetrating actions to enhance the fatty acids and other components within its health product composition.
“By using a cold-pressed extraction method with no excipients, the multitude of beneficial compounds and biological activities housed within organic Cran Naturelle Oil such as tocotrienols, tocopherols sterols are retained,” explains Lukawski. “The bioavailability of these ingredients in skin care applications may enhance the regeneration, healing, protection and ultimately the beautification of the skin.”
