Rancho Dominguez, CA—BI Nutraceuticals announced successful completion of its ISO/IEC 17025:2017 certification in a press release yesterday morning.

American Association for Laboratory Accreditation evaluated BI’s quality management system and testing procedures, and recognized the company for demonstrating technical competence in the field of biological testing.

ISO 17025 is an internationally recognized standard indicating technical proficiency and the ability of a laboratory to generate accurate and consistent data. It has two main sections: management requirements, relating primarily to operation of a laboratory’s quality management system; and technical requirements, which determine the reliability of the laboratory’s testing. A laboratory must have a thorough and documented quality management system to be considered for accreditation.

According to the International Organization for Standardization, laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 have until the end of 2020 to transition to processes that meet the standards of ISO/IEC 17025:2017.

“The ISO 17025 embodies BI’s commitment to quality within our manufacturing operations,” said Rupa Das, BI’s VP of global quality and compliance. “The certification will provide further assurance to our customers related to accuracy of testing and reporting, as well as product safety. Due to the level of recognition for ISO/IEC 17025, the certification will also help facilitate acceptance of test reports between laboratories improving operations overall.”

The press release says that, given that the company offers over 400 ingredients that have been determined as safe for use in dietary supplements and food and beverages, quality testing has been a pivotal component of BI’s success for the past 40 years.
