Boulder, CO—Big Green, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and its founder and chairman Kimbal Musk are introducing a new international holiday: Plant a Seed Day, which is to take place on March 20, 2019, the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, according to a press release.
Plant a Seed Day is, the press release says, a movement to mobilize kids, their families, and their communities to plant a seed to grow real food in their home or classroom. The press release says: “Plant a Seed Day is about reconnecting us to our roots, to real food, and to a path to a sustainable, healthy lifestyle.”
The goal this year is for one million people to take a purposeful action towards a healthier future by planting a seed on March 20th, the press release says. NBCUniversal will highlight the day with live planting events planned on the TODAY Show and Telemundo. Selma Hayek, Ian Somerhalder, Zec Brown, Jamie Oliver, Jose Andres, and Maria Rodale are motivating fans and followers towards the same goal. Unilever brand Growing Roots is donating $1 to Big Green for each social media post on March 20th that uses the hashtag #plantaseedday up to $50,000.
Musk said in the press release, “Plant a Seed Day is a movement to remind us all of the power and impact of growing your own healthy food to enjoy. It’s a call-to-arms. It’s a push for action. It’s a drive to make a change in how we eat.”
