Watsonville, CA-based Nordic Naturals has a back-to-school promotion called, “Buy a Bottle. Help Us Build a Playground!”to benefit Carter’s Kids, a non-profit that builds playgrounds in areas in need throughout the country. With any purchase of a Nordic Naturals children’s supplement from July 1—September 30, a portion of the proceeds go to Carter’s Kids. The firm hopes to donate $75,000 toward a new playground at Webster Elementary School in Long Beach, CA.

The American Botanical Council of Austin, TX, published a Botanical Adulterants Bulletin on goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) root and rhizome. Written by Michael Tims, Ph.D., academic director of herbal medicine at the Maryland University of Integrative Health, the Goldenseal Bulletin offers information about the plant species, followed by data on its cultivation, harvest and market size. Also included are sections about adulterants, frequency of adulteration, potential therapeutic and/or safety issues with the adulterating species, and analytical approaches to detect the adulterant. Private equity firm North Castle Partners has sold Doctor’s Best of Irvine, CA, to Xiamen Kingdomway Group Co. of China.

The Healthy & Natural Show has set its 2017 show dates: May 3–5, 2017. The show will continue to be held in Navy Pier in Chicago and organized by William Reed.
