United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) announced that J. Alexander (Sandy) Miller Douglas is the new Chief Executive Officer and will serve as a member of its Board of Directors. Douglas most recently served as CEO of Staples, Inc., and prior to that was President of Coca-Cola North America, overseeing the $10 billion revenue business, encompassing all aspects of its consumer and business-to-business operations. He replaces Steven Spinner, who retired from his position as CEO and Board member but will continue to provide management and Board advisory services through a transition period for up to one year after his August 9 retirement.

OmniActive Health Technologies has appointed Mark Dewis as its CEO. Dewis brings three decades of experience in the health, nutrition, flavors and food & beverages sectors and previously served as president for International Flavors & Fragrance (IFF). He holds a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Science and is a graduate from University of Nottingham, Nottingham, England.

Nina Barton, a seasoned consumer brand and e-commerce leader who most recently served as Global Chief Growth Officer at Kraft Heinz, joins Jarrow Formulas and Natrol as Chief Executive Officer. Barton brings her more than two decades of experience accelerating consumer businesses to the leading vitamin and supplement brands owned by New Mountain Capital.

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) announced that Brian Wommack, CRN’s Senior VP, will assume the responsibilities of the Executive Director of the CRN Foundation. CRN also announced that its Board of Directors is prioritizing access to dietary supplements and functional food, as well as access to nutrition education. To this end, the Board has created the Access Task Force, led by Micah Osborne, President of Stratum Nutrition. Its objectives are to define and explore opportunities surrounding accessibility, leverage the CRN Foundation for ways to achieve access goals through its 510(c)(3) charitable status, and enhance member experience and engagement through doing good works.

One Step Closer has added José Corona and Konda Mason to its Board of Directors. Additionally, Cynthia Billops has joined the team as Vice President of Operations, Membership & Belonging, and will oversee the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion project.

Former Abbott Nutrition executives Simeon Saunders and Mike Glick are joining Else Nutrition. Saunders, who was Abbott’s Divisional VP, will be VP Global Medical Marketing and Scientific Affairs, where he will lead the company’s global medical marketing, clinical, and regulatory affairs. Glick, who was Abbott’s Senior Director Pediatric and Adult Nutrition, will be GM and VP of Else North America, leading the U.S. subsidiary expansion, mainly in medical marketing retail and operations. Glick will also be responsible for operations as the company expands into Canada.

Chemi Nutra has promoted Armando Ramirez to Warehouse Manager, following completion of a warehouse expansion and modernization project. Previously, Ramirez was Warehouse Supervisor.

Tractor Beverage Co. is updating its leadership team. Kevin Sherman, formerly the company’s Chief Marketing Officer/Chief Revenue Officer, has been appointed CEO. He is succeeding Luke Emery, who has 20+ years of experience at Coca-Cola, and who is now Tractor’s Chief Growth Officer. Justin Herber is joining Tractor as CMO, leaving creative agency Another, where he led campaigns for Nike and Shopify.

Courtney Pineau is the new Executive Director at The Climate Collaborative. Pineau will be responsible for working with partners in the climate justice community to identify ways to apply a justice lens more fully to the work of the Collaborative. Pineau joins the Collaborative from Green America’s Center for Sustainable Solutions, where she led their Climate and Agriculture Networks.

Aker BioMarine has announced two new talents on the Human Nutrition team: Katina Handeland, Ph.D., and Yunpeng Ding, Ph.D. Both Handeland and Ding will serve as Directors for Research & Development, responsible for research within the company’s human health and nutrition department. Handeland will be working to both design and follow-up the pre-clinical and clinical trials for the human health portfolio, studying the biological effects of krill and its benefits. Ding will focus on Superba Krill oil and its potential for sports performance, metabolic syndrome, as well as cardiovascular and cognitive health.

Hoddi Hafsteinsson is the new Chief Financial Officer at Territory Foods. Hafsteinsson will help maximize Territory’s financial performance through strategic performance management and scale Territory’s multi-local footprint to reach a national audience.

Open Book Extracts has appointed Andrea Baillo as VP Product Innovation and Research and Alexandra DePalma as Director of Product Innovation. Baillo most recently served as Senior Director, R&D, Quality, at Green Thumb Industries, where she focused on safety and stability of cannabinoid formulations. DePalma is bringing 10 years’ experience in analytical chemistry, material science engioneering, and product development, also coming from Green Thumb Industries.

Iovate Health Sciences International has hired Andrew Reid as Senior Vice President of Data Science & Analytics.

Gelteq Pty Ltd has appointed James Pekarsky as CFO as the company accelerates its global launch, including its first major entry into the U.S. market.

Mike Schall, Former Senior Executive at Whole Foods Market and President & CEO of The B. Manischewitz Company, has joined ePallet on its Board of Directors. Schall has more than three decades of senior management experience with a number of leading food companies and will collaborate closely with ePallet’s executive team.
