Valatie, NY—Tierra Farm has attained B Corp status, raising it to the ranks of “purpose-driven, progressive companies in the B Corp community,” according to a press release, a community that includes companies like Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, and Dr. Bronner’s.
The B Corp designation has been awarded to fewer than 3,000 companies in 150 industry categories and 64 countries worldwide. It is granted by B Lab, which quantifies a company’s commitment to the environment, its employees, and the quality of its products. The first step is an assessment test, wherein questions address five main categories: corporate governance; workers’ pay, health and safety on the job; racial and gender diversity in company ownership; the business’ and suppliers’ environmental impact; and customer service and feedback.
For Tierra Farm, the press release specifies, attaining B Corp certification involved a 10-month documentation process to verify that the company meets B Corp standards. The company registered as a New York State benefit corporation, which is a requirement of the commitment to public transparency and legal accountability. Tierra Farm generates nearly 70% of its electricity from solar panels, recycles more than 60% of its waste, only uses 100% recyclable and eco-friendly packaging, and sells products at prices fair to both farmers and consumers.

Todd Kletter, CEO of Tierra Farm, said in the release: “The B Corp certification signals to all those who interact with Tierra Farm—including customers, partners, employees and suppliers—that we are fully devoted to using business as a force for doing good. B Corp is a global symbol of social and environmental consciousness that communicates Tierra Farm’s core mission of sustainability. B Corp fosters a community of leaders, motivating an international movement to use business to create value for society. Tierra Farm is proud to be a part of that rapidly growing community.”
