A new clinical study, published in HealthMed Journal, has examined the effects of Keragen-IV oral supplementation on hair and skin. AIDP's Keragen-IV is a solubilized functional keratin available in a digestible powder form intended to strengthen hair follicles and nails, reduce hair loss, and boost the production of collagens IV and VII between the dermal and epidermal skin layers resulting in greater skin elasticity and a reduction in wrinkles.

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, non-invasive experiment was conducted on 65 female subjects, between the ages of 45 and 60, with healthy skin but damaged or stressed hair, for 60 days. The result: The use of oral keratin supplements containing Keragen-IV led to improvements in skin structure, hair structure, and a reduction in hair loss.

“This study verifies Keragen-IV’s role in hair anchoring which is a concern for many women experiencing hair loss due to hormonal changes or stress. It also indicated Keragen-IV’s role in skin elasticity which can deteriorate as one ages," commented Dr. Jennifer Gu, VP of Research and Development at AIDP, Inc., one of the principal investigators.

With consumer focus on beauty from within continuing to grow, supplement manufacturers are looking for key ingredients to help take advantage of the trend. In a recent survey, U.S.-based females were asked which physical issues they were least comfortable with, and 23% declared hair thinning and weight management as the top answers.
