New Pioneer Co-op will be implementing Eli Codes and Smart Shelf Tags within their stores over the next several weeks, according to a press release.

When scanned by a smartphone, Eli Codes can educate and inform shoppers, and thereby increase sales while undercutting a customer’s desire to google information about a product, which could end with the shopper choosing to buy online. Recent SPINS data on retail sales from Fresh Thyme Market found that products merchandised with Smart Shelf Tags did 3x better than the rest of their respective categories.

The press release states that New Pioneer is only displaying Eli Codes for vendors participating in the program, but that the grocer is asking suppliers to participate and enhance the product content that shoppers see when they scan the Eli Codes.
