Bradenton, FL—HP Ingredients has announced a new study performed on IQ200, demonstrating the ingredient’s value for brain support, mood support, and healthy aging supplements.
IQ200 is a water-soluble ingredient made from Persicaria minor, an herb that has been shown in clinical studies to improve cognitive flexibility, processing speed, and executive function in adults, according to a press release. Other studies have demonstrated improvements in working memory and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. This study is the first one, however, to be performed on older adults, aged 60-75 years old.
Published in BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies, the multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study investigated the effect of six months of Persicaria minor extract on 30 adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Each subject consumed either 250mg of IQ200 or a placebo twice daily. Cognitive function and mood were assessed at baseline, three months, and six months using neuropsychological tests and Profile of Mood State questionnaire.
The findings: 6 months of supplementation showed significant improvements in negative mood states including tension, anger, and confusion. There was potential improvement in visual memory, negative mood, BDNF, and triglyceride levels. The authors concluded: “the findings from the current research suggested that 6 months of P. minor extract supplementation can significantly improve visuospatial memory, tension, anger, confusion, total negative subscales, triglyceride and BDNF level among older adults with MCI.”
Annie Eng, CEO and Founder of HPI, said in the study: “Their results were in line with a previous study that also demonstrated significant improvements in tension, depression, anger, and total mood disturbance among healthy middle-aged women with mood disturbance.”
